Default Waterproof Key

Hello Jeep Friends:
Quick question...when I got my JK, I got two keys...they're both the same, and neither appear to be waterproof. I'd like to take a key with me in the water while surfing (live here in San Diego where we do that kinda stuff year round). I'm just not willing to hide the key in the wheel well with this investment. Any thoughts? My old truck came with a 'valet' key, which was waterproof.
I assume that this key would 'fry' if I submerge it for a few hours. I don't want to find out the hard way, as that could make it tough to get home. Hitchin' in a wetsuit isn't my idea of a good time.

Try 1 or 2 non-lubed condoms. Double knot. Test it out first of course on something you can tell right a way if the key get's wet or even moist.

Well, you could get a spare made at any hardware store that wasnt a sentry key, then it would only open the doors/ glove box/ center console, and hide the "real" key somewhere inside the Jeep. (Not the best option in my opinion, but i know someone who is doing just that ~ Not Me)

I would just Put the real one in something waterproof that i could secure to my body, Tons of options there from ziplock, to Trojan, to small waterproof ipod like cases.

This is the solution I use. I keep a spare key (without chip) in the pocket of the seat cover. Whenever I need to pop out real quick and not shut the vehicle off, I take it with me.
My F150 had a keyless entry keypad that was perfect for outdoor sports attendance. I never had to worry about taking keys with me. There are some aftermarket keypads available that would work with my remote keyless module, but they look like crap and probably wouldn't withstand much outdoor exposure.

I use the Hitch Safe (http://www.hitchsafe.com/). It's definitely more secure than just hiding the key in the wheel well, but with enough time you could get in - there's only 10,000 combinations.

I used to have somethign like this a few years back. Would just clip the lead onto my swimsuit and stuff it in a pocket.

The hitch safe is pretty neat, but it's just so obvious that you're putting something there, I don't see it being very effective.

I wonder if the key is good enough on it's own. It seems like the chip is pretty encapsulated in the rubber surround on mine. Nowhere for water to go! (Unless you have a key-fob for an alarm or something, in which case I say just leave that at home when you're surfing)

The RKE fob for my Tundra didn't survive my bad ass horiz-spindle washing machine. I doubt my Jeep's sentry key with RKE would survive it either. I usually use a ziploc bag to protect the keys if I'm going to be in the water.
