Default we are losing the "JEEP" in our jeeps

is it just me or are our jeeps turning into landrovers. landrover used to produce hard off road vehicles that were simple, easy to fix and never broke down - for this you sacrificed luxury but it was well worth the ruggedness in return. before the jk i had a lr3 - it was a great car but had been made so electronically complex and unreliable that one was afraid to take it into the bush in fear that if it broke you would not have the ability to fix it, landrovers have also become so expensive that people dont take them off road as they live in fear of the huge price tag to repair even minor trail damage. with every new model they move further and further from their off road history.
looking at the new 2011 jk it seems jeep is going down the same road - 40 grand for a car you are going take bashing through to forest ....i dont think so - not for most at least. more electrics than ever before ....little scary considering the not so amazing reliability many of us have experienced. Dont get me wrong i like the new jk's and even the new land rovers, and think the luxury is fantastic - but is the trade off really worth it? in ten years wiil the wrangler be the official mall crawler of the american house wife as the discovery has become? i just figure i bought a wrangler to get away from all that. just my

I agree, but no matter how much we bitch, the users on this forum are the minority. Most jeep owners are soccer moms/dads these days. Jeep isn't going to sell shit that only a fraction of the market will buy. Progress is progress no matter how you look at it. If you want a bare bones jeep, then better get out the classifieds. IMHO, however, I want my leather interior and gps and sound system, and then have the knowledge that I got the most badass offroader on the market, when I need it.

Fwiw I think that most of us forget that we're a small percentage of wrangler owners that use our jeeps for anything other than a daily driver. If they didn't have any comforts that appeal to soccer moms there's a good chance of the wrangler going the way of the dinosaurs.

Soooooo! true.... except for the leather and gps part. Id rather spend 100 bucks on my tom tom every few years then over 1500 for the mygig crap...

A LOT of non-jeep type people believe wranglers are for chicks.

I will be buying a new 2012 if they do the diesle or some upgraded engine that gets better mileage... i might wait until 2013, but too much longer and i am getting a sti and getting out of offroading lol.

It's not all about Jeep's profit, your govt mandates a lot of the electronic goppily-goop you find on newer vehicles from the 3rd brake light to the info that your OBDII collects.

Just something to keep in mind.....
