Default What if??

What if the jeep was equipped with the manual automatic tranny. Like paddle shifting so I mean you still have control of your jeep and what gear you want it in, and then switch back to auto for slow traffic. Like that Audi dual clutch tip tronic tranny. Would anybody buy?

Yes, to carry the track tires for your sportscar!

Kidding aside, I'm all for technical innovation. I love the control of paddle shifting. When going up a hill, you just blip the left paddle and the vehicle shifts down, not losing any speed. It's even better combined with a dual clutch transmission, which makes shifting super fast and smooth.
Not to mention better fuel economy. It is said the 7-speed DSG in the VW Golf uses up to 20% less fuel than a conventional automatic transmission.

But in a Jeep Wrangler ... it's like giving a pig an iPad. I would be happy with just a decent 6-speed automatic.

Because the 3.8L is a pathetic turd and the Wrangler is as aerodynamic as a cinder block attached to a parachute.

That paddle-crap is one of the dumbest features that they've ever put on a car. To put one on a wrangler is just beyond comprehension. Rest assured that you're never gonna see that one!

Why is it dumb?

Because it shifts faster than a human can?

Because it never misses a shift?

Because it automatically matches RPM on a downshift?

Because it engages perfectly without too much or too little clutch slip?

One can argue that this may or may not be useful technology for a Jeep. However, it is certainly not dumb. Ever drive a car with this technology, such as a VW GTI or a Mitsu Evo?
