Default What is the vent in the tailgate for?

None of my other vehicles have this, not even my TJ that I recall.

The only thing I can think of is when the front roof is flipped back (or front tops removed) and windows are on it will let pressure out when driving down the highway.

It's to help equalize cabin pressure...if the tub were completely sealed, every time you shut the tail gate or a door, it would create a positive pressure. The vent lets air flow through unrestricted.

All cars/trucks are vented. It also helps with air flow when the heater/AC is on (if you are not using recirc).

Both statements are correct.
It is to ensure flow-thru ventilation.
Back in the day, when cars had front and rear vent wings on the windows, they did not have an exit in the rear of the body for air.

Ah. I seen the window vents on my neighbors rear ZJ windows. Always wondered what they were for.

What year is the ZJ? I didn't think they had window vents.

I see the vents on the D pillar. Never noticed them before.
Nice ZJ.

Thanks. Was a PITA to get the lift on. Mainly because we didn't measure right and welded the rear CA brackets in the wrong spot. But round 2 went smoother.
