Steel is better rubbing against rocks and such. More durable. But heavy and can fray. When it snaps it's very dangerous.

Synthetic is lighter, safer and overall better. But can get frayed against rough surfaces.

X2 here. Plus most quality synthetic line includes a scuff cover that slides along the rope. The covers vary in length but mine are 8'.

I stopped running cable a long time ago after seeing a guy nearly killed on the recoil after one broke. You can't put a price on safety.

I bought a Superwinch LP10000 at Amazon for $405. Currently at $424 with free shipping.

The LP8500 is only $350. great prices on great winches.

How important is a waterproof winch? I'm planning on mounting one in the stock bumper which will make it lower than normal. If I go through a water crossing will it be toast?

The xrc8 should be fine for the 4 door application.

Heck yes. I'm also jumping on this deal but for the xrc8 comp unit. Same deal but with a synth line for $450
