Default Winch questions

ok So I"m looking at getting a new front bumper and winch. I heard about the ramsey 8500e which is onsale for 399 at nt.

also what about the smitty bilt XRC? There on sale at 4wd.com for 299 and you get free tow strap.

are there any others around this price range thats are good?? What should I look for in a winch?

I feel your pain. I was comtemplating a winch purchase for a long time. I posted a poll because I was undecided between the Smittybilt and the Warn Powerplant. (I got some great feedback) In the end I pictured myself in a position where I really needed my winch to perform and it didn't. My philosophy has always been "You get what you pay for" To make a long story short, I bought the Powerplant.

Power plant is nice! I just dont want to spend that much on something I wont use very often.. If I find myself using it more and more I would up grade to something better.

You might not use the winch part, but I'm sure you'll use the air compressor if you go off-road.

I was recently out with BYUCOUG on a run. My tires were aired down to 10 psi. I was counting on using his air compressor. He aired up 3 of his tires and at the ed of the fourth tire his compressor started to make some very uncool sounds. I ended up driving down the mountain to the nearest gas station to get air. That was part of my reasoning on speding more money on what I feel is a better investment. "you get what you pay for"
