Default 3000 miles of this great nation!!!1

Hi everyone,

As mentioned before, I have been a long time memeber of this board (in terms of years, but no where near as some) and been VERY inspired by many of the threads in this section. Thus I wanted to share the following, as my "repayment" to the joy/drive this community and this particular section has brought me.

Anyway, we finally got our JK 1 month ago. This was the first part (purchashing) to what I have planned for some time now to be a truly meorable family vacation. In 1 month we have already clocked 2000 miles on it and after the oil change this Friday will be adding the following 3,000.

Anyhow enough with the intro, our route is going to be the following in which we start on Saturday and come back on August 8th.

Any suggestions or thoughts on anything will be more than welcomed. Im just starting this thread so that I can share pics along the way. I spend too much time on planes for work, thus taking an American made vehicle to check out America the way it should be.

Some places we are staying -

Durango
Grand Canyon
Kingsman
Disney (for the kids)
Six Flags (for me)
San Francisco (for my grandmother, kids great grandmother)(Still considering HWY 1 on the way up from Aneheim)
Tahoe
Salt Lake City
Moab/Grand Junction (will DEF hit Moab, love it ther, but not sure if we will stay or not)
Home (Colorado Springs)

My only suggestion is get off the interstate, put the windows down, drop the top, and enjoy the secondary and county roads. That's what a jeep is fore.

A road trip in the southwest would not be complete without a trip to Las Vegas (more than just casinos) and Hoover Dam!

Maybe, since you are in CO, you can drop down to route 66 and go to ca that way. Just a thought.

Default Highway 50

Sounds pretty good. Gets you some of everything, desert, mountains and all in between. Keep in mind that Highway 50 across the top of Nevada is the loneliest highway in America, seriously I have been on it and there is nothing out there, still pretty cool. Have fun maybe some of us will see you out on the road.

The drive from Walsenburg, CO to Four Corners is amazing. Be sure to drive through Monument Valley, AZ/UT while you're right there. I agree that you should detour at Kingman to the Hoover Dam and Las Vegas. Keep in mind it will be super hot at Hoover but well worth it if you've never been. Also try to get off the pavement some. There are some nice easy trails around many of the places you'll be visiting such as Grand Canyon and the parts of Colorado you'll be driving through.

Sounds like a fun trip. Here's my input.

1. If you're at Disneyland, you might as well go to the beach. Newport or Huntington. Will be your only chance to see a nice one as all the beaches in northern california are horrible in comparison. And they are pretty close.
2. Skip 6 flags magic mountain. It's gangland during the summer.
3. If you take hwy 1, stop or drive thru Carmel or Monterey. Monterey Bay Aquarium is incredible.
4. Be ready to pay $4 plus to cross those bridges in N. Ca. They're expensive now.
5. If you're going anywhere near Napa, take a quick drive up and down the valley, maybe stop at a winery for lunch. They're all kid friendly.
