Beach driving OBX
bring the tires down to 20psi and 4wd hi will be fine. if you have a heavy foot, try to stay off it, or leave the esp on. you don't want to dig a hole. if you don't have a heavy foot, kill the esp. just take it slow (like 10mph) and you'll be just fine. its tempting to drive fast since its open and flat (for the most part) unlike when you are in the woods, but you still need to go slow.
and if you have lockers, and can turn them on in 4wd hi, turning the rear on will make things so easy.

I know that in KDH there are certain times of the year that you CAN drive on the beach usually during the off season and then once you get into Hatteras State Park there are ramps and you can drive quite a while on the beach. I know in Feb. if you went to Occracoke the only way to get to the village was to go on the beach because they were working on the bridges. Like everybody else said lower your tire pressure and pick a line and stay with it. Try and stay in the hard sand and don't get to close to the dunes. Give it a good wash when you get back to get all the salt spray off. Like atomic said keep a good steady throttle. When we went both me and my dad in his YJ stayed in 2wd for a long while unless we were either coming on or going off the beach on the ramps...but we were comfortable with that and if it's your first time on the beach I'd stay in 4 hi just to be safe. Don't turn to hard, make nice wide steady turns, and like mentioned above take some old wood planks or some carpet and a shovel in case you do get stuck. The most important thing....TAKE PICTURES of your JK on the beach and have fun. Good Luck OOOO almost forgot your 2nd question...I'm not sure about OBX but in the east coast in general if you go to Assateague Island National Seashore which is south of Ocean City MD I know you can camp on the beach there. If you do go to Assateague go to the website as there are things you MUST have before they even let you on the beach you also need to buy a permit to get on the beach. You do that when you get there so they can check your equipment...here is the website for everything that you might need and details on camping...http://www.assateagueisland.com/isla...ach_travel.htm ...ok now that I've talked on and on about this I'm done.

Hey lots of good advice thanks. I was more concerned with dealing with the sand AFTER the beach like it grinding in the brake sdriving home.....I guess a good wash job would be fine. I figured I d ask to seee if anyone had any mechanical issues after going in sand... Running lockers front and rear might be aa good option too. Also you cant really camp just on the beach I think it has to be in a designated area. I think in padre isalnd texas you just sleep anywhere. The capelookout seashore looks really cool. You go over ona ferry lik e3 miles. then you have about 50 miles of beach to explore and camping anywhere on beach at your own risk... been to obx but havent tried lookout islands...anyone...?
we have loads of sand here,
, airing down is all it takes, if the jeep is heavy(loaded with heavy gear) then 15 psi works best, if unloaded and feels light then below 15psi should do it, we go down to 8-10psi usaully
We stay on the 4x4 beach, wild horse area. its actually Carova beach are on the 4x4 beach.
I actually drove in 2wd without airing down. I think it helps that the MT's are wide and the JK sits high off the ground..
just air down, and turn off the esp and you'll be fine. Sands horrible, I still had sand in the frame from two years ago
