Caribou Mountain
A week ago we decided to explore a mountain just across the boarder from us in Idaho. We drove up Caribou Mountain. It has several gold mines that are active, a few abandoned old cabins, and mining equipment. It is a very narrow, slightly rocky, kind of easy road with a lot of ruts and several stream crossings.
This is Caribou Mountain as we approached it.

I am about to cross a crystal clear stream direct from the snow melting not too far from here.

High up on the mountain and deep in the forest the sun is slow to melt the snow.

Snow busting! Yah hoo!
What a blast! Just have to be careful not to get too close to the edge as it is thousands of feet to the bottom and a long way from help.

Here is an abandoned old log cabin in the snow near a mine site.

The end of the road for this trip. The snow is covering the scree field and the road, continuing down the mountain. There is no way through it. I'll come back and drive to the top another day.

Although we didn't make it to the top of the mountain, the view was spectacular!

A stream rushing down the mountain from the melting snow.

Another of the many stream crossings caused by the melting snow.

Mother Nature dressed up in her finest. A high mountain meadow covered with Balsam Root Sunflowers.

Wildflowers adorned the mountain like brilliant jewels cast randomly everywhere.

I hope you enjoyed seeing my tour of one of the lesser known mountains in our area. The Rocky Mountains are awesome in every season.

X2 Heck, I feel sorry for me missing out all those years of exploring mountain trails before we got Jeeps. Lots of folks come out here and write home saying, "Ship the furniture!" What's keeping you, time's a wasting!
And you know what? Those pictures are of the lower part of the mountain. They didn't even get to the pretty part on this trip. The view from up there is fantastic! And the Creek at the bottom is worth dipping a gold pan into as well.
Cariboo Mountain is one of my all time favorite spots.
Oh, and it is spelled with two O's, not ou. :-)
