Help Planning My Rubicon Run
Planning on hitting the Con in August with 3 or 4 well equipped Jeeps. Please let me know if you have better places to camp or things we should be aware of. Of course we will be treading lightly and are bringing as many extra parts and tools as we can manage. Will be following the Wells Guide. Anyways here's my current plan.
1. Thurs. Travel Day to Loon Lake. Camp at Loon
2. Friday. Wheel to Buck Island and camp.
3. Saturday. Wheel to Rubicon Springs and Camp.
4. Sunday. Finish the Trail. ***Still looking for a place to camp at the end of the trail****
5. Monday. Travel Home.
Any help on a good place to camp on the last night would be appreciated. Also if there are any recomendations for storage places near Placerville where we can drop a tow rig it would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Rob

Make sure to stop at Uncle Toms for almost cool beer. End of trail is a very busy place. There are three campgrounds b/t Squaw and Truckee right along the 89, though I'm not sure if all are open with cutbacks. If open, you shouldn't have a problem on a Sunday. Out by Prosser there are a couple of campgrounds, including one along the Little Truckee River. There is the Donner State C/G. Only problem is the proximity to 80, but it is a very nice, well-maintained c/g, and you can/should make reservations. About two minutes from there is a great BBQ/beer place, which is nice after a long day. I can give you more if none of these is to your likes. Fallen Leaf Lake is another great c/g, with tons of spots. I just think you may have difficulty getting in to the closer spots like Sugar Pine, Emerald, Bliss, especially with three others, but they are closer than the previous ones.

Don't forget , you can't drive your Jeeps more then 25 feet or something like that from the trail . If you are camping on the Rubicon , you will have to hike all your stuff to the camp sites and leave your Jeeps next to the trail . That's pretty crappy .

Yea I saw that. 50' easement so you are correct. I can understand it. Rubicon is probably one of the most travelled trails in the world.
