HOLY CROSS - if you love your Jeep DONT GO
.
Besides Moab, my favorite place to wheel is HC! Ran it a few times back when I had my XJ. Miss it a lot. Loved French Creek. Good spotting, paying attention and knowing you limitations and one can have lots of fun there.
Just love this sign:

Here are some more pics of Holy Cross. We took three jeeps. Mine had 37" tires and a 6" lift, the other 4dr Rubi has a 3" lift, and the 2dr Rubi was stock. All did well. Interestingly neither of the the 3" lift rubi or the stock Rubi broke anything (although they did get scratched). Mine has a 6" lift and 37" tires. I fell off a rock and crunched the driver rear corner (gave me a reason to get AEV corners), I also bent a long arm. Nothing major.
The 2dr JK slipped off a boulder on french creek, got high centered--took a while to get it off. Had to jack it up and put rock under the wheels.
We did use safety lines. A couple of the wheel stands were impressive (and a wee bit scary).
I got up Cleveland rock taking the wall on the left rather than the boulders on the right (see pic). I attached my winch line line to help prevent flopping if I slipped off a rock and fell in a hole, but I didn't winch up!!!!!!
It took all day to do the trail even though it is only a few miles long.
With the stock suspension JK's we were more careful on choosing lines than with mine.
It is a fun trail. Very pretty country. Having done it once, i bet we'll be able to do it faster (several hours rather than all day)

It's funny.....I have seen this trail wheeled by Rick Russell in his DVD "Colorado Trails Vol. 1", which was filmed in 2000.
It looks like some of the trail / obstacles have become even more "EXTREME" as opposed to what they were like on the DVD???

I guess thats because A LOT can change in 10 years???
