My Jeep vs a Hummer up a dune....
All HUMMERS are mall crawlin, owners suck, blah blah blah.
Try wheeling with someone that actyally wheels their H1/2/3. I've had 10 before this JK....and I can tell you, if equipt properly, they do great offroad! The H2's do great with 37's or lifted and 38's...elocker in front and rear...like Rugged's. The H3 Alpha (V8) with 35's does well also. ...and of course the H1's are great, but high maint. great for Moab trails. I hate wheeling tight shelf roads and brush rakng the pi$$ out of my trucks, so the width is not too much of a factor.
Since I built my JK for a DD/ on 35's and did the same with the past HUMMERS, I can tell you the JK is fun to drive, waaayyy under powered. Save the "it's a Jeep, not a sportscar." This engine is realiable, but a joke in the power dept. It's comp. to my 1st two H3's with the I5 and 35's. But not the ALpha. That V8, (what the JK needs IMO) but I'm not spending the 20K+ to put that in, should have been an option on this truck. I would hav ebought it with it in there. Comfort between the H3/ Lix package and my JK w/ katskinz is pretty close...although the H3 did handle better on the roads IMO.
That vid in the dunes is weak. Great the OP made it up. I've been up there and it's a blast. ...but the guy in the H2, obviously didn;t know how to drive on the sand.
Bash the HUMMER all you want...it's a Jeep forum. But at the end of the day, the HUMMERS are very capable.

How much was invested in upgrading that H2? 10 grand? More? One could invest $5k in an old rust-bucket Ford Ranger or Chevy S-10 and tackle anything in those photos.
I think it's great that you spent the time and money to build it. I think it's equally terrific that you can go out and run difficult trails. I'm sure you enjoy the hell out of it and are proud of it. I can also understand why blanket condemnation of Hummers irritates you. However, you're swimming against the tide, because very few H2s and H3s will ever be wheeled. Unfortunately, a lot of people will paint you with the same brush.
To keep the thread's perspective, I'd like to see some photos of a factory stock H2 or H3 going where a Rubicon can go, or even a Sport for that matter. Lets stick to comparing apples to apples.
All the above aside, a well optioned H3 is a good basis for a very capable vehicle, without spending vast amounts of money. The biggest disincentive is depreciation. A two year old H3 Alpha, with under 20,000 miles can be bought for about $25k, 20 grand less than it's sticker price in 2008. In '08, I negotiated my JK for $3,000 below sticker. It's resale value today is... About what I paid for it.

To each their own is correct. I just don't like the looks of the H2 or H3 even if they were the most capable 4 wheelers made. Looks like a jeep designed by a committee (to me, that is, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder). And I don't need to ride in a Cadillac-like cab while wheelin. I do enjoy my A/C, but I also like the utilitarian look of the wrangler inside and out. (Not too crazy about the '12s proposed interior tho.)
You Jeep guys bashing the Hummer. let's get this straight. There are 3 HUMMERS. The H1, the H2 and the H3. I have no good comments to make for the H2 and H3 because GM got involved and screwed it all up. BUT the H! is the original just like the Willys Jeep was the original Jeep. And do you know that the Military and then civilian H1's were built on the original Willys Overland assembly line in Indiana. So go ahead and bash the H2 and H3, but remember the only difference between an H1 on a trail and a Jeep on the same trail is the H1 needed a wider trail. I pulled many a Jeep out of problems with my H1 back in the mid-1980's.

) so we should go wheel together? I just shrug it and said , okay lets go wheeling. So I bring my other tj jeep buds and we wheel and ALWAYS have to pull the H2 or H3 out even over stock Jeep trails.
I cant stand them and to this day with my JK they still do it! Long story short I ended missing the door removal and customization the off road industry has created in customizing Jeeps so I bought an 09 4 door last year and love it!!!! My buddy from college has a 2007 H1 and we go out all the time together and bring "Faux" Hummers from gas stations
to keep the tradition going!
Great video. Gives me new respect for the Sahara model. I guess they ARE at home in the sand.
As far Hummers, all you see anymore are H3s and a few H2s, so I think most of us are referring to those when we are negative. And most would agree the real Humvee and even the H1 are a whole different story. The others are really Hummer wannabees. So maybe we should refer to them as H-Ws.
