I love the Mojave Road!! I used 30 gallons of fuel in my CJ last time and we bailed right after the bridge. But, I never used 4wd - even in the sand washes off Rasor Road and near the lava tubes. I bet the JK would use far less fuel than the CJ. Plus, those full width Chevy axles had me really nervous speeding through the Joshua Tree section north of Guitar Mountain.
Oh wait, I got stuck in Soda Lake trying to get to a stuck 3/4 ton Dodge. He slid sideways and I slowed down to avoid him - then I sunk. This was in 2005 or 2006:

What we figure happened with the two flats was that he accidentally hit one of those razor sharp lave rocks with the sidewall........ and slice. the mickey thompson's were sliced,one of the rims had a decent chunk out of it and one was actually cracked. we were all back on the trail in less than 20 minutes i would say with everyones help and spare tire.
