Project-JK Funnel Lake Labor Day 2008
As many of you know, we have been heading up to the Sierra Nevada Mountains all summer long and for our final run of the season, we decided to make a run up to Funnel Lake. Located up in the Coyote Flats area just southwest of Bishop, Funnel Lake is a small but beautiful crystal clear body of water that sits about 10,500 ft above sea level. While the trail leading up to this lake is easy, the scenery is simply to die for and the company simply couldn't be better.
Anyway, here are some shots from our run/camping trip....
Shot of our JK's in front of the Manzanar Japanese Internment Camp cemetary...
Graves at the cemetary...
Getting ready to drive all 5 JK into the Reward Mine...
Down towards the bottom of the mine - about 1/4 mile deep...
Here we are picking different tunnels to turn our JK's around in...
Airing down at the trail head on the outskirts of Bishop...
Working our way up the mountain, looking back toward Bishop and the Owens Valley...
Driving across Coyote Flats at dusk...
Sunrise at Funnel Lake...
Everyone getting breakfast together...
Shot across the lake as storm clouds began blowing in...
Tessa fetching sticks in the lake...
Rubimon skipping rocks...
SGT. EVIL, Trail Bud and Rubimon stand back after igniting the camp fire...
Day 2 Sunrise...
Water crossing on our way up to Coyote Ridge - SGT. EVIL making his way across...
At the top of Coyote Ridge - near 11,500 ft.
Ryan getting blown off his feet in hurricane force winds...
Poser shot with South Lake in the distance...
Shot of our JK's below a hopper near to the Schober Mine...
and finally, us airing back up after leaving camp early....
I'd just like to take a moment to thank everyone for joining us on this run/camping trip up to Funnel Lake. More than wheeling, I have to say that it's because of you that WOLette and I enjoy hitting the trails as much as we do. If you would like to see all our pics, click on the link below:

as always, i'm envious of you folks out west. but i love the cave shots! i want to do that! if i had found this one cave around here about 3 years ago, i could've done something like that, but they sealed it up.

Its still hot here, in Bishop at the base of the mountain it was over 100. At the camp elevation 10,000 + feet it was cool, little rain (20%) and a little windy. But it was all good.

thanks - hopefully you can join us on our next run
bummer. there used to be another mine out here that the civil defense made for a post nuclear attack. up until 2003, you could go in this multilevel mine and still find tons of canned biscuits and barrels of water with a stamped date of 1963 on them. unfortunately, yahoos started going in it, shot things up and burned the supplies. needless to say, the entrance was blown up and blown shut.

you can physically drive your jeep down about 1/4 mile but the shaft goes on and on beyond that with branches going everywhere. at the 1/4 mile point, you can get up to 5-6 jeeps turned around with ease
