Project-JK Mojave Desert Black Mountian Wilderness Run
Last Saturday, OffTopic, Bill, james90755, Sandy, the doojer's and us made a trip out to the Black Mountain Wilderness located in the Mojave Desert and let me tell you, it was truly a trip of a life time. Certainly, never in all my years of exploring the Mojave Desert have I ever seen so much snow everywhere and look this amazingly beautiful. Anyway, here are a few shots from our trip....
OffTopic, Bill, WOLette and I gassing up in Barstow before heading out....
Meeting up with everyone else at the Route 66 Museum....
At the end of pavement airing down and disconnecting our sway bar links....
A sign of things to come... all day long.....
Making a splash as we hit the trail....
Our first stop along the way, we stop at an area where petroglyphs can be found as well as the first of four "A. Tillman" signatures which were inscribed in the black lava rocks back in 1874 as he made his way through the Mojave in 1874....
Here we are taking a stop at the site of the old Black Canyon Stage Stop....
The amount of snow everywhere was simply unbelievable...
A quick group shot before heading out again....
Our next stop was over at the Black Canyon Well...
Although the old windmill is no longer here, you can see there still is water down below....
Watering trough for stagecoach horses...
Here we are over at Scouts Cove where the Tiffany Jewlery Company financed the mining of fire opals and where beautiful pieces can still be found today....
The main attraction of Scouts Cove is this snow covered tuffa tower that miners dug out and made into a comfortable home....
Taking a look inside, you can see there was a nice fireplace....
Here's a shot of doojer looking down one of two chimney flutes cut through the tuffa tower....
Making a quick stop to check out the snow and beauty of the Mojave Desert...
Being that we were in the desert, there was an unusual amount of mudding we had to do....
Inscription Canyon was the main destination for the day and where we stopped for some lunch...
Petroglyphs at Inscription Canyon....
View looking down Inscription Canyon....
On our way to our last stop of the day...
And here we are at our final destination of the day - sunset at Superior Dry 9well, not so dry right now) Lake....
It's a miracle!! Here we are driving on water....
Here are a few more sunset shots....
PLEASE NOTE: If you plan on visiting this dry lake to see this wonderous sight, please remember to tread lightly. Although the road does technically go right though the middle of this normally dry lake bed, please take caution to NOT tear through it, do doughnuts or anything else that would otherwise spoil the beauty of this area. Thank you.

Great pics! It's hard to give a sense of just how wild the wheeling was...sliding down that snowy hill , the miles and miles of trail that had turned into a river , snowball fights in the desert, mud mud and more mud, trying to make it back to pavement as everything was freezing up beneath our tires and slipsliding the whole way out then all of sudden 18" of virgin snow up the mountain on our way out of there, airing up in the dark with sub-freezing temperatures....
Excellent day!
Thanks everyone, I had a blast. And thanks WoL for planning yet another excellent run!
