Swamp Lake Trail 9-25-2010
I had the pleasure of running this trail. Try as I might I couldn't get anyone to run the trail with me.
After some debate, and seeing that I don't have Trailbud's luck nor do I have his Jeep, I figured I would avoid breaking, and do fine if I were to take my time with it, and not rush.
And I'm glad I took the risk.
This a very nice trail, second favorite to the Rubicon. And challenging to say the least.
Here are some pics of my day trip to Swamp, Enjoy:
The trail head and the first couple of miles of trail are rather tame:
This is the picnic table in the C. Well's Guide Book. If you haven't a copy of these resources I'd highly recommend getting them.
And this marks the top of the first ridge at 9300"
A view from the top.
Making my way down to the creek crossing:
A panoramic from the first ridge:

After crossing the creek the trail forks. To the right leads to Mud Lakes, private property
and this sign lets you know it too:
Up till now the trail hasn't been to bad, then the fun begins with this drop off:
The trail levels a bit then climbs again in a gain of altitude to 9600"
Until then, here's what I traversed:
Where's the trail?
Fall colors begin to show their splendor:
Rooster Rock. It's not that bad in person nontheless still impressive.
Oh crap, I'd better engage the rear locker:
Onward to Grouse Lake:

After Rooster Rock the climb to the top of the ridge continues. Grouse Lake is on the way:
Leaving Grouse I came across this Mine Shaft. And a reflection I saw off my Jeep.
Look close:
A pic of Swamp Lake from atop the 9600' ridge:
The trail rapidly descends to the lake. Swamp Lake is awesome.
Plenty of camp sites. Here's the lake:
Following the lake is the most pretty Swamp Meadow:
And Cabin:

After leaving the meadow on your right the trail get's though. Flat for a short time you are inspired by sight's as these:
Then the last couple miles...well look at the pics:
The trail continues down hill. Tire placement is key. I should of snapped a few more pics of the boulder fields.

Here are a few more scenic pics including the Rainbow Mine. I wish I could of explored the Mine more:
And at last about 7 hours later and 13.4 miles I reach the end.
I hope you get the chance to run this trail, and I'm glad I was able to share with you.
