In the Ruidoso area, I can recommend Tina's Cafe for breakfast. Get there early and you can get a table at the very back with some nice scenery. Leave room for one of their cinnamon rolls WITH bacon....it sounds odd but it's a glorious combination! Also, Pena's place is a little hole in the wall with good food. Hall of Fame burgers was pretty decent greasy spoon place. Rio Grande Grille and Tap room had a nice selection of local beers if you're in to brews.....and the food was pretty decent too if I recall. The drive back in the White Mountain Wilderness area north of town is pretty nice. We did a couple hikes back there. Nogal Summit was worthwhile if you want something a little strenuous.
