Trip Planning/Advise on Moab
Planning a trip to Moab for the first time in early March. I will be going with a good budding and his TJ. I have been looking at staying at redcliffslodge.com, any advise on where to stay and what trails to hit. Any info or pictures of the area in general. This is our first time and we'll be coming up from Tucson, Az. Thanks for any input.
Here are some of the places I went for useful information.
discovermoab.com (Moab's official tourism web site)
moabdreams.com (condo rental)
We stayed here last year and loved it. A little more than a hotel, but it's a 2bedroom 2 bath condo (sleeps up to 6) with full kitchen laundry and 1 car garage. Very clean and nice and the owner (Marta) was great to work with.
Other than that, I think I recall the meet up spot being the parking lot of the City Market on 191 in the early mornings.
Not sure if you'll also be traveling with family or younger kids and plan on hitting the National Parks. If so make sure to hit the visitor center and ask about the Junior Ranger program for the kids. A fun way for kids to learn about the parks and earn a NPS Junior Ranger Badge.
If you've never been to Moab and will not be running with anyone experienced in the area pick up the Wells book. It's hard to get lost using it. Most of our time there we were running trails alone so we were navigating using the GPS way points provided in the book.

Agreed. Also, get a 1 gallon ziplock bag to put it in while on the trail (folded open to the page you want so you can see the maps/directions through the bag). Dirt, grime, and spill-proof.
In the past, I've stayed at the MicroTel Inn. They have been very good to us and even when having to ship parts there they were very courtious. They even smiled at us and laughed when they watched us dragging our doors through the main lobby and into the elevator to put up in our rooms. Enjoy yourselves!

I will be taking the family to Moab in July, first time for us, on a 2 week west vacation. I ordered my spiral bound a couple of days ago. I also noticed on their web site, that they do updates on the website for the trails. Pretty cool, can't wait to get it!
Not to steal the thread, but I have a question.
I am driving the JK all the way from Indiana. Do I go with the soft top, or the hard top?

Your luck you have such a short drive to get there. My whole 2 week trip, includes Mesa Verde, Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon, and a few others is about 3980 miles round trip. That doesn't include and drive while we are there.
My book arrived yesterday. Wow, it is packed full of information! I have been studying it for hours. The only thing I wish they did in the book differently is to use the 10 point scale of difficulty instead of easy, moderate, and difficult. Other then that, I like it.
Good luck with your trip
