Many calls are coming in about Forest closure due to the government budget shut-down. I meet with our district ranger, Deborah Walker this morning for the detailed closure notice for the Uwharrie Forest. She stated that the Arrowhead, Badin lake, Canebrake and the Group camps will be the only closures for the Badin Lake Recreation Area. The OHV and Horse trail systems will remain open and we will continue to sell passes. Uwharrie Cabin Rentals ( 1-800-516-2309 ) are still open and primitive camping is still allowed in the forest. A portion of the district staff will remain on duty, including law enforcement. She did state though that all of this may change as a budget resolution is met. As with most issues and concerns that come up about the forest, there are always varying interpretations as information spreads. We always try to relay information direct from the main source to keep things as simple as possible. But yes, the forest is still open for visitors and we have beautiful Fall weather to enjoy so get outdoors. - Chris
