Default Sahara 18" Alloy Wheels with Duratracs VS Stock Rubicon Wheels with Rubi Tires

Hey guys, sorry for making a second thread on wheels in two days but I'm in need of some speedy responses/opinions as I'm completely 50/50 on a decision I have to make very soon.

I have the 2014 JKU Sahara and want to upgrade my tires. Looking to stick to stock size 32" but want a more aggressive tread pattern, both for looks and performance off-road, while keeping road manners and fuel economy as best as possible. Since I like the look of my 18" aluminum stock sahara rims, I was just about to pull the trigger on five 255/70/R18 Goodyear Duratrac Tires which would fit on my existing sahara rims. The cost per tire would be $250 + tax. The idea would be to buy five of these tires for $1250 + tax, total would be $1,413 and try to sell my existing Dueler tires in great condition for about $400 for a set of five. So at the end of the day I'd be out of pocket about $1000 and get to enjoy duratracs on my existing sahara rims.

However, I recently stumbled on what I think is a great deal online for a set of 5 brand new Rubicon rim and tire take-offs. I like the look of the Rubi rims equally to my Sahara rims. I understand that the Rubi stock tires are an exclusive, just for jeep (more pavement friendly) version of the BF Goodrich KM. Personally, I think this tire looks slightly better (more aggressive) than the duratrac but I suspect that road manners for the Rubi tire will be inferior to that of the Duratrac. The seller agreed to sell me the five Rubicon wheels with tires for $1750 tax included. I have a good feeling he'd part with them for $1700. This would give me the option of keeping my sahara rims and tires as a back up or sell them (both rims and tires) for about $1000 for a set of five. If I sell them I'd be out about $700 and get to enjoy the BF Goodrich Rubi KM Tires on brand new Rubicon charcoal rims.

This decision is extremely difficult for me to make. What would you guys do and why? I'm looking for some opinions here. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance folks!

^ That is the biggest ripoff that I have ever seen on here in the past two years!!! CRAZY!!!

Rubicon take-offs are not worth anything over $1000. You can even find brand new sets going for $500 if you're patient enough.

I loved the look of my 7-spoke Sahara wheels until I installed new tires, then I thought it killed the look of the Jeep. Ended up spending another $1200 and remounted them to new wheels. Should have just ordered it as a package from eBay ($2-2.5k) in the first place...

Let me make sure I understand you right. You're saying I can find 5 brand new rims and five brand new Rubicon tires for 500$? How is that even possible? That would mean each brand new rim/tire combo is $100. Further broken down it means a new Rubicon rim is $50 and new bf Goodrich km2 is $50. My cousin was shopping around and recently bought a set of 5 new km2 tires for 1200$ on sale, that's without any rims. Each Rubicon rim new retails for $200. Help me understand here as I must be missing something. Cheers.

Keep an eye on sites like ebay, takeoffs come up fairly often in the 1k range and ive seen as low as 600.

Also take a look at the for sale section here in rims and tires, theres always stuff available, i saw one post with 5 rubicon rims for 250$ (no tires) and this one for a set for 800

Yeah 1750 for rubicon takeoffs is ridiculous!

He's not screwing with you at all. Head over to the for sale section here and there is 3 to 4 post right now of people selling rubi take offs for $600-$800. Don't pay $1700 for them, that's absolutely insane. Personally, I wouldn't pay more than $500-600 for them. People buy rubicons, go bigger tires and need more back spacing for them and want their stock tires and wheels out of their garages. Stay patient and you can score a good deal.

When my 2012 JKU was a couple months old I bought a fresh set of 5 rubi takeoffs for $850. I then sold my 5 sport wheels/tires to a coworker for $600. So, only cost me $250. Now I have 53,000 miles on it and just replaced the goodrich tires with duratracs. I have 17" rims. I only replaced the 4 tires and my complete total installed price was $675. It was $605 for the tires from simpletire.com and another $70 to get them installed at a Goodyear tire place.

Like the others have said, used jeep wheels and tires are cheap. I have bought 3 sets of wheels and tires and $400 was the most I paid for them. Keep an eye on craigslist and the forums and you will find some. In regaurds to your selling just your tires, it will be a tough sell and would think you will be lucky to get $200 out of them if you can even sell them at all.

Honestly, some people just want them out of their garage. If they really are new or almost new Rubi take offs, $200-$250 per wheel and tire is honestly a fair deal. Anything cheaper is a steal.
