Default Upgrading tires am wheels

Hi I'm new to the jeep world. I currently bought a set of 20" kmc rockstars an now are looking for tires for it. I'm interested in the nitto trial grapplers. I just dont know what size to get. Either 295 55 20, or 305 55 20. I'm not lifting it now so I just want to make sure they fit. Please help.

20's? Dayum!

The 295/55R20 is roughly 33/11.50

The 305/55R20 is roughly 33/12

either will work fine.

305 55 20's will fit without a lift as long as you trim the air dam or take it off.
Otherwise you need a 3/4" leveling puck in the front..... Or any other overall lift will work.

These look pretty big in real life, we only get to hit lite trials no major off road... It is my wife's jeep.

...but I am allowed to modify and drive on the weekend ;-)

295's seem to small but it is up to you, it is your jeep.

The nitto 305 55 20 is 33.4 x 12.6+ (the tire actually says 13" / it looks like 13 / my tire guy said it measures at 12.6")

Right. I got the same measurements.

I was just giving the op an idea of size.

I guess I could have taken the time to write the exact size.

I must be gettin lazy haha.

You were correct on your size, technically 305 55 20's are supposed to be 33.2 x 12.
I really was not trying to call out that anyone was wrong, I was just saying that the nit to trail grapplers were larger then 305 55 20

I guess the point is that with nitto's and every other AT or MT tire check the manufacuter's actual measurements and not just the tire size especially if you are concerned about clearance.

You will be surprised in the difference in size from one tire to the next even if they all wear the same label:

NITTO trails 33.4 x 12.6
NITTO terra 33.21 x 12
Mickey Thompson mtz 33.5 x 12.5

I understand what you are saying. It is crazy how different so many tires are that are Labeled the same.

Im on the same boat... I just want to get the 295 55 20 definitely without a lift, at this moment, due to budget constrains. Were you able to install yours without an issue? did you have to use spacers ? please post pics and your experience. thanks

You opened a 3 year old thread, the guy you are asking hasn't posted since July of 2012.

Doing a conversion on that tire size gives 32.8 x 11.6, correct? Do you plan on chopping your flares or moving to flats? Or staying stock? What backspace (or rim width + offset) are you going with? Are you willing to trim the plastic skid if needed? Are you thinking about a leveling kit or small BB?

And you should expect some comments on the rim size you are choosing. If that is the look you want, ignore them and go for it, it's your jeep.

yes that conversion is correct. I am planning on getting flat flares using 4.5 backspace. I don't want to trim the plastic skid, if possible. and if I dont need to, I don't want to get a leveling kit or a small bb. Do you think that's possible? thanks for yoour help
