Very cool idea. I have a bullmastiff that goes everywhere, but I havent really found a need to strap him in, he doesnt tro to go anywhere, he's happier to be in the car. Im more worried about the gap created by the folded rear seats on my unlimited. Im planing on building a folding ply-wood floor for the entire back of the jeep with old carpeting on top to create a solid floor. I have nightmares thinking about the clod slipping into that gap and breaking a leg!

I have 3 labradors and have always been concerned about them getting a leg caught in the gap where the seat folds down. So i took out the back seat and built my own platforms to make a nice cargo area.

I like the harnesses too, that's the next thing I am gonna work on, but can wait till spring when the hardtop comes off.

Here's some pics.

Default Commercial Dog Harness works great

Check out Doctors Foster and Smith- They have a harness that clips into the seatbelt buckle. It works great for my 25lb mixed breed. I used it for years everytime I took her anywhere in my TJ with the top down. I'm planning to get one for my black lab puppy, but she's growing too fast right now.

Harness really shouldn't be to keep pups in the car. It should be for the same reason you wear a seatbelt, namely to keep the dog in place if you have an accident while driving. With that regard, it really should be fairly tight and not allow much movement, as well as going across the big shoulder bones to lessen injury.
However, all of us (including me) don't always use them as they should, and I've been on scene for plenty of dog fatalities, which always tears families up.

That is perfect.
I've been thinking of a Web to keep Franky from movin around to much when the family goes on trips (jumpn' over the seats and such) I was wonderin' how to keep him restrained. I wouldn't like a 70lb Golden Retriever airborn in my JK if I had to stop fast. I see you used a seat belt harnes to restrain them nice.

Sam.
