Some pics of 'basics' / 'throw-ins'.

First, the Quadratech floor mats. Sold as separate front/rear/cargo packages so Unlimited and 'limited'(lol) Wranglers use the same ones for front/cargo and then there are different sets for the rear. They were listed at $60 front, $60 rear (unlimited), and $70 cargo when I bought in Dec 09. Note that these are the same as the Rugged Ridge and Tread Lightly mats.

The two front mats have a little bit of flex on the sides. It got a bit better after the first week, but has been the same for the past month. To get them flat you could probably use some velcro. The part under the accelerator pedal could go up a little higher too - if you had muddy boots you could end up getting it on your carpet.(as usual with my posts, click to go to my Flickr album to get larger shots)


The hole to connect the mats to the original mounting hook are really tight. Major pain! I had to slice one a bit longer to get the hook through. Maybe it would have been easier if it wasn't freezing outside. Just keep rubbing them down and it will eventually work.


The rear mats for the Unlimited is actually a single long mat that covers the center hump too.


The cargo mat is molded to not interfere with the rear door's bulge.
It has lines to show where you can cut if you have the subwoofer option.
One unfortunate thing is that it covers up the two tie-down rings behind the rear seat.



Second, a set of Mastercraft grab handles. These are sold by a number of stores, I picked mine up from Quadratech for $60 - plus a mindboggling $12 shipping.

You get two big velcro handles for the front and two small strap handles for the back. Picture isn't quite accurate - I had to switch from the cordless screwdriver to a cordless drill. The screwdriver didn't have enough torque to loosen the bolts. You also need to use a nut driver, it was either 10mm or 11mm I forgot to write it down.


Undo all the velcro, and slide the handle over the bar so the buckles are hanging down and on the outside of the bar.
This makes it easier to thread the velcro. If your panels are off / top down you don't have to worry about this of course.*


Thread the velcro straps through teh buckles and loosely connect them.


Slide the handle to where you want it. Rotate the handle so it is hanging down, and tighten the velcro. Done.


Moving to the rear seats... The two rear handles connect to the existing bolts that hold your sound bar in place. I doubt the bar would fall down, but I only undid one bolt at a time.


Stick the bolt through the grommet, making sure the grommet will be between the jeep body and the washer.


Hold the straps straight while you tighten the bolts, otherwise the straps will twist around.

 

Yeah you are right, you don't have to slice the mat to fit if it is warm outside. You will like having them during a run and then hosing them off when you get home.

 

The handles aren't quite essential yet - but my wife & I are both short, so once I get new tires and a lift they'll probably be a life saver, ha ha.

 

Funny - I am waiting on my quadratec mats and mastercraft handles as well. Also waiting on my IPF lights. Now all you need is to install some footwell LED lights and I can copy that thread as well!

I've installed footwell lighting in all my previous vehicles. I've used LEDs, electroluminescent 'tape', and little neon tubes before. I'm not sure what I'm going to use in my Jeep. Probably LEDs.

 

Agreed. I have tread lightly mats in front. The edges dont sit real well. They stick up a bit.

 

but i just got the front handles also and they look awesome, high quality.

 

Love the velcro idea, I noticed my rear mat flapping a bit today on a trip to the Appalachian Trail.

 

I haven't gotten around to adding the velcro yet, but I can say that the mats have not 'molded in to place on their own'. I think instead of velcro I'm going to get some of the industrial strength plastic 'velcro like stuff'. Instead of having a hook side and a furry loop side, it just has plastic nubs on both sides - so it won't get as dirty and nasty.

fyi I used two sets of rear handles - the ones in the front strap from the front pillars to the roll bar above the sun visor.
