You should paint the background behind the shift pattern to match the bezel. It's easy and looks stock.

Well, my boot decided to let go today. I had planned on doing this and painting it eventually, but didn't have time to paint it while I had it off, maybe later...anyway, used 10-24 cap screws. I think it looks much better even unpainted!

Got all excited about this post until I went to look at mine. Mine tabs broke off at one end of the bottom piece. Any fix for that???

On removing the knob...
Used a medium/large crescent wrench with a rag to protect the shifter. Only took a couple of firm taps with a standard claw hammer and the knob popped right off

Got bored at work. So I did mine. Had to peel all the glue off but the whole thing took me 30 mins. If that. I'm gonna paint it when I get home.
