The foam was installed last summer. Nothing happened in all that time. We had seriously cold weather (-25) a few nights ago. My husband wondered if it might interfere with the defrost so he pulled it out just during the cold snap. The sun was shining and when getting out of the Jeep he pulled off his clip-on sunglasses and threw them on the dash. No they didn't go down the hole by the windshield..........only because I saw what he was doing and I dived to stop them as they hit the hole. Whew! The foam is going back, pronto!

All fine and good, but how to you retrieve something from the abyss? The end of my GPS power cable dropped down in the crack, and due to the end of the cable being a 90 degree mini-USB plug, it worked as a grappling hook and won't come out. Does the plastic panel closest to the windshield come out if the two nuts are removed which are located under the little access panels?

I thought the gap was for clearance for when one folds down the front window. I am not planing on lowering it, so I am going to put the foam in. I have not lost anything yet, but then, I have not put anything there yet.

Pics may be hard to see as I took them at night.

This was another easy cool mod! Thanks for the idea.

Nice, all you need now is the "duster and some spray polish mod" and you're all set.

awesome simple idea! i had i micromachine (remember those little cars?) hanging from my rear view, it's been in every vehicle i've owned. The string broke and sent it into the dash's black hole. Believe it or not, i found it months later on the floor behind the drivers seat. Must've rattled its way out.

so when do we get the "What have you dropped down your dash hole" thread?

If there is a contest for the most expensive thing lost down there, I might win it. I put my paycheck on the dash when the windows were down. Then a gust of wind (on a calm day) flipped it up and down she went.

Got a new check the same day but for a few seconds I was freaking out! Thanks for the great idea. This mod will be done today.
