Did this Friday. This is a really good idea and wanted to bump this up the list. Pipe insulation at Lowe's $.97.

 

I went to the beach a couple weeks ago and threw my parking pass for the condo up on the dash. I couldn't find it to save my life. Bet it's in the hole up there that I didn't know about :facepalm:

 

To anyone that has had this mod done for a while.....has your insulation shrunk? When I installed the insulation it fit tight from end to end. Now it has a 4" gap on both sides(im assuming it was the heat that shrunk it). I guess its time to spend another $1.....

 

Mine completely started to melt through. Gotta love AZ sun!

Amy hints on how to recover the stuff that dropped down there before this mod?
I lost a nice pocket knife down that dreaded slot a couple months ago. I'd love to recover it before spending my $2 to prevent future losses.

 

Awesome idea! Mostly because I had never noticed that gap. :-)

Today I checked out and it's really wide. I wonder if I can run a conduit and wire some stuff like my GPS through it instead of having the power cable hanging.
