-an uncarpeted divider for a roll of duct tape. I hate sides that are caked in fuzz from carpeting. Besides it is a great multi-use tool to have around. Especially when your best friend cant shut up.
-a power inverter near it in case you need it. Yes I like battery operated power tools but some just plain suck. -Edit- and yes I take a cordless drill with me, I am too impatient to not take it.
-Oh wait almost forgot a fridge next to it to keep the beer cold.
-one section that has dividers for Stowaways in various sizes.

-instead of carpet, either rubber/vinyl floor mat (removeable for clean up)
-for the outside, I'd almost go with fiberglass then paint to match
-top, either the diamond plate or rubber/vinyl with tie downs, mounting points for hi-lift, recovery gear, etc.
-if you're into audio, a seaparate section for a couple amps

Is this an unlimited?

The pics look good so far !

The flat part behind the hinge on the top is where the high lift jack will be mounted, the fold down front will have supports to act as a tailgate.

Any other ideas you have to improve it, please let me know!

My wife giving me a look that says hurry up and finish this so you can take me to dinner

lloks great! Man,that look is all too familiar.

I REALLY LOVE THIS THREAD. MY WIFE LOOKS LIKE THAT EXCEPT SHE IS PREGNANT SO IT IS A LITTLE MORE STEARN.

I AM GOING TO BUILD A SECURE TOP COVER FOR THE REAR STORAGE, DONT KNOW IF IT WILL END UP A BOX OR NOT.

I KEEP THE BACK VERY LIGHT WHEN I AM NOT FOUR WHEELIN' BECAUSE THE ADDED WEIGHT OF ALL THE EXTRAS KILLS MPG. WITH HIGH LIFTS AND TOW CHAINS TOOLS ETC, IT IS ABOUT 150 - 200 POUNDS. I DRIVE 70 MI/DAY TO/FROM WORK. I FIGURE IT COSTS ME ABOUT 10.00/WEEK TO DRIVE WITH ALL THAT GEAR ALL THE TIME WITH GAS AT 4.20/GAL

bump

I really like that box nice craftsmanship. I took a trip to Ikea, yueah Ikea. I figure the store pretty much specializes in storage of all types. I found a bunch of stuff but some of it was over my budget. One thing that i did get was a smooth rolling wooden drawer, i then went to there open and damage item section and got a few pieces of plastic coated wood sheles and table tops. I think these will be fairly water proof because they are ment to have drinks and spills on them. i am working it all out now. i may post a pic when i am done, but then again after looking at yours, i may want to AVOID THE embarresment. I have a hi-lift mount for the hood of a Tj I think I will mount that on top as well.

Default coatings

i used flat black bar-b-q grill paint, however, i think i may re-coat it in the black spray on rubber coating for tool handles. i just found out you can buy it in a spray can at lowes for 5.69. prbably would take a few cans.

I'm thinking about mounting it to some sliders so it will slide out to me when I need to get something out of it. I'll have to order them, Home Depot and Lowes don't carry them.

Default more ideas

Hey both of the boxes look great! Clearance sections rock, especially if you are ok with some small dings.
As far as texture is concerned, I have a theatre trick that might work. Coat the outside with good old white elmers glue then coat in sand (fine finish, looks like rough grit sandpaper) or sawdust (rougher finish depends on the size of the bits in the saw dust). I dont know how long it will last left in the elements but will look good for a while at least and the elmers glue sticks to just about anything.
Coating in diamond plate would look really nice I think. I would just have to spray it black though (I hate chrome on cars, you put it on to ding it up, no sense in it). Also around here it would get nice and hot inside of it.
On the idea of taking it out. I would also recomend taking the stuff out if you have to take it out. Dont like the idea of the nut issue, a back issue, or a hernia operation.
