Just finished mine. $37 dollars. Got all 4 wheels off amazon for $10 .. Much cheaper than Home Depot.

 

Built my cart a week or so ago using plans from this thread. Like some others I added a 2x4 in the middle to provide extra support for the 1x2. I also added two six inch 2x4's on the front to make sure the top doesn't slip up over the main 2x4 while moving the cart with the top on it. I used 3" casters to give it a little more clearance. As another poster to this thread did, I plan on adding a strap to hold the top in place on the cart and possibly another 1x2 between each side of the top. I'll use the holes in the top where the screws go through when attached to the Jeep. Have a fear of the top flexing or warping. Probably not an issue, just trying to be careful. Got all the wood, casters, and hardware from Lowe's. I got the carpet scrap for free from a local carpet store. I've got about $35 to $40 total in the cart. Probably went overboard with all the carpet, but I had plenty of carpet and staples. Hopefully I'll be switching to my soft top this weekend.

 

Thanks for the post on how to make a hard top storage cart. MUCH better than a $150+ expenditure. May be visiting local hardware store this weekend!

I store it on skids and wrap it up in sheets/blanket to cover the glass. lol

gotta say removing the hardtop by myself was a breeze lol

 

My son and I finished our cart today, using materials we already had, so NO COST but lots of quality time!

 

I just finished mine but my carpeting skills need work. Hindsight is 20/20 and I realized I had a staple gun in the tool chest, I could of used that for the carpeting, lulz... Total cost around $40.00

 

Looks fine and it'll do the job. I'm going to make one in a couple weeks out of a pallet. Cost $0

 

I'd like to see a "how to" video for that one.
