Default DIY Sway Bar Holder (Manual Disconnects)

I haven't seen this posted before. I stole the idea from one of the North Texas guys.

You need:

1-1/2 inch diameter wood dowel (6 to 8 inches long)

#2 Pipe Clamp (find in the electrical aisle of Home Depot)

Zip Tie

I had to buy a 4-ft piece of dowel, so I had enough left over to give out to the other 4 guys on our trip to Barnwell last weekend.

-Cut the dowel to about 8 inches
-Install the clamp on one side.
-Slide dowel into the frame tube
-Zip-tie your sway bar in a 'neutral' position with the sway link zip-tied to the sway bar. I found out the hard way that you will rub the link if you tie the sway bar in the "up" position.

Here's the overall view.

Notice there's a little hole to run the tie through.

The frame hole into which you insert the dowel.

Sway Bar zip-tied in place with the link zip tied to it. Note the "Neutral" position of the sway bar to avoid rubbing.

Can you post a pic of the dowel being 'used'? I can't picture it. Thanks.

Edited first post. Changed last picture to an "in-use" pic.

I've looked at that pipe welded into the frame and wondered what it was for. Great Idea!

That's not a bad idea! Way to be innovative. This will work while you're out on the trail, it doesn't need to be anything special. I think wood is a great idea. Depending on what you wheel in, it'll eventually rot, but I think that'll take a while before that happens.

I'm building wooden wheels next. Nothing like a set of 46" Conestoga Wheels on a JK.

I like it - wooden wheels. Just to prevent future rot problems I got in touch with Barney and he's chiselling me some stone ones for mine.
