A couple weeks ago, while my doggo Maizey was hopping up into the Jeep, she slipped, and kind of fell back out while turning around to come down forwards... Her leg slipped right through the step, and luckily I was able to catch her before she came all the way down and injured herself. Very easily could have broken a leg this way.

My cure was to weld some flat expanded metal over the area. It makes for great grip on my boot soles as well. I feel much better about her jumping up there now. If anyone with a dog has this kind of step, I recommend this modification!
