Default Doorless mirror mod

So, I took the doors off and quickly realized I needed some mirrors after I cut someone off in my blind spot. Doh! So I found those little round "blind spot" mirrors and put them on the air vents, thinking...good 'nough. Wrong! Still had a blind spot out the driver's side, and the passenger side fell off. Great. So I needed something more substantial. My buddy has the factory mirror relocation kit that moves them up to the A-pillar, and after looking at it, I decided I really didn't want to do that. I have power mirrors so I would have to buy some stock mirrors + the relocation kit (added expense), the passenger mirror becomes quite useless once the door is back on, and I would have to install/uninstall the relocation kit every time I removed/installed my doors so I didn't have two sets of mirrors on my Jeep. I've looked at a few of the mirrors people have used on thier Jeeps sans doors and really didn't want a long skinny pole with a round mirror at the top of it sticking off the side of the Jeep, I wanted something a little more inconspiuous. So, here is what I ended up with.

I went to the local bycicle shop and looked through thier options. They were nice enough to allow me to remove a few different ones from the packages and take them out to my Jeep for trial fittings. This is the one I decided on, knowing I would need to "modify" it to work.

This piece needed to be whittled down to a thinner post so it would fit into the door hinge

And this piece needed to have it's "legs" cut off

Once that was all done, this is what they looked like

Now all that was left was to put it all together and make sure I did it right.

I did this all with a Leatherman and only cut myself once. And...now I can see behind myself when driving and...parallel parking.
