Default Faster Removal of Freedom Hardtop front panels

Maybe it's me, but I have been a little frustrated by the extra time it takes to screw/unscrew the knobs out of the soundbar area when putting on, taking off the front panels of the Freedom top.

So, I took some extra bolts not used anymore that have the T30 torx head on them, cut off the bolt part only leaving the head of it. Then I removed the 2 knobs and the head of these bolts fit perfectly in the round area inside of the knobs. So, I used some epoxy and glued them in place.

Now when putting them in or taking out, I loosen them a little first, then take the power screwdriver with torx bit and back them out in less than 2 seconds. Going back in, use the power again, just making sure to not go too tight with power and finish tighening by hand.

Cost $0, free extra bolts and epoxy lying around. So not a major mod, but I've been happy with being able to get them in and out faster.

do they bounce or flap with bumps or high wind when left out?

Very windy where I am and I worry that they'll pop up and off.

When I have my hardtop on, I run without those two screws, too. I guess we get about as much wind here in OKC as you do in Jenks. LOL. Never had a problem; nary even a leak.

BTW: Why haven't you chimed in on the 4th of July Disney run thread? Interested? Learn more.

we have constant 30 mph gusts here in Abilene, we are the windmill capital of the country! We get more wind then anyone and I leave them things out and never have issues with my hardtop in rain or wind. Just leave them out for an even faster removal of your freedom top panels! I can have my front doors front panels off in less then 3 minutes!

Sounds like a great way of doing it! Just as a reminder, there were alot of guys over tightening them in the beginning causing the screw to go through the outside of the panel and damage it. Be careful when re-installing with a power tool!

only way you should be able to do that is if you are JUST using the panels without the rear on, and they have little feet you flip down to prevent that, but thats only if people read the owners manual

I gotta say I dont get this mod, how much time does it save you 30sec a min if you turn the knobs really slow?

good question, even when I did use the knobs it only added a minimal amount of time to my removal in the morning before work. Still... I like the innovations peeps come up with around here.
