JKS FRONT AND REAR TRACK BAR INSTALL

Using a washer, some string, and a piece of tape I measured my axle centers.

Passenger side



Take the difference between these two and divide by two to get your track bar length. Then install the trackbar and tighten the jam nut. Really easy.



Here is the trick I used. With this you can get a good estimate of how far off to one side it is. Then if its off to the passenger side which they all should be you just lengthen the bar to stock lenth (41.25 inches) and add half of what the difference is. This was my method and I just came up with it in the garage so if someone else has a better way I wish I could have used it while doing all this work.

The front installs the same way as the rear so I did not take any pictures of it.

 

The domn side to this is you had better be parked on level ground. The string with washer will fall straight down and if your jeep is not lifted on the jackes completely level and on level ground your measurements will be off.

 

This is very true. My garage I know for sure is level and a great place to do this. Then the Jack stands are extended to the same length and then I jack the Jeep up from the pumpkin till i get the Jeep to rest on the axle so it will measure as if the jeep was sitting on the suspension. Then take your measurement. Worked out great!

This question was sent to me recently, I posted it here incase I missed something or didnt make it clear.

The Jeep is on jack stands on the FRAME. the pumpkin is slightly jacked up just enough to show where the Jeep would sit if it were on the ground and not in the air. This gave me the best relationship to where the track bar would need to be measured from. If the axle was all the way drooped it would have an inaccurate measurement. We want the measurement to be how it rides most of the time... So Teeter the axle on the jack and measure after you have the Jeep slightly off the jack stands. You stated you had the OME lift, that is a 2 inch lift, you cannot use the same measurements I used on the outsides of the hubs, my lift is 4 inches rear... 4.5 inches front.

I did the front the same way. Using the washer/plumbob method.

The jack stands should be on the FRAME so after the frame leaves the jackstands stop!

Yep... there it is thanks. Great write up. So when you were done... how far out was the rear and how far out was the front. with my ome hd, mopar offroad bumpers front and rear and warn xd 9000i winch and skidrow skid under oil pan and transmission, it seems my front was just barely out, maybe 1/4 inch, and the rear was out over an inch. OME springs 616's on front and 618's on rear.

 

Its perfect now, but before I would not know I did the lift and track bars all at the same time.

EDIT: I just understood what you said. The rear was out 2 inches you can see that in the pictures above, the front I think was an inch.

 

I wasn't making much progress yesterday. Was one of those days. Anyway I put the original track bar back on. When driving last night the esp/bas lights came on... and stayed on. I did not have these lights prior to trying to install the front adjustable track bar. The lift, bumpers, winch, and skid have been on for about 2 weeks with no esp lights. Any idea on why they came on now?

When you were finished with the track bar adjustments and installation... was your steering back to center?
