Zip Tie mounting pads available at Home Depot, Lowes, or hardware stores.

Zip Tie Mounting Pads at Home Depot

Use one small drop of Gorilla Brand, Super Glue on each tab right on top of the sticky backing of the tab, for extra holding power. Let dry for a few hours after installing the tabs

Better reinforce those bad boys with something stronger than the 3m tape, ive had mine done for about a month now and the tabs are starting to come off!!! If anyone has any suggestions of a heavy duty glue let me know, I was thinking of trimming off the 3m tape and using plastic model cement, I think that would bond it better..

I've done this mod 3 times...

The first time, I wiped off the back of the grill and used the 3M pads with no glue. They peeled after 3 days.

The 2nd and 3rd times (mine and a friends grill) I cleaned the surfaced with rubbing alcohol pads, then i cleaned it with them again. The two new grills have no peeling after 2 months - with out any glue. Time will tell if this holds up or not.

As for the plastic mesh, I've run this is some 90*F days, for fairly long trips, I can't imagine it getting so hot it melted the mesh.... besides, if its melting the plastic mesh, its probably melting the mounting bases too so I doesn't matter if your mesh is metal or plastic. Metal might actually get hotter and effect the bases since it will retain the heat and since it weighs a bit more it will be bearing down on the zip ties.

Realistically though, this is a tried and true, easy mod for your jeep. Its cheap, and takes an hour or two. Even if something goes wrong, or you prefer a different method, its easy enough to change.

Just go for it!

IM going to be doing this mod tonight using the plastic gutter guard or the black plastic fence. Im not to worried about it melting, most of the time your moving and there is going to be air flow. The only worries I would have is the tabs coming off due to heat. So my choice is going to be remove the adhesive tape and use the gorilla glue and make sure the grill is very clean under each clip before I glue it. May even rough it up with some sand paper to give the glue a good biteing surface.

they come in little bags with a few in them, they are little and I could have walked right by them and probably did 5 times. but hey I am a terrible shopper.

they were $1.35 / LITTLE BAG I got a whole bunch, thinking I would need em

For those of you that want a metal mesh instead of plastic but can't find a place to buy it, I'll have some available soon that I can share with you. I hope to have more info for you tomorrow.

By the way, I did this mod back in February before heading to the Shamrocked Jeep Event in Red Rock Canyon, California. It held up great and still is holding up like new.

Pictures and info to follow...

Did mine today using the plastic mesh hardware cloth. I think it came out pretty good.
