Home made winch hook strap
I had some mil-spec webbing lying around and decide to put it to use. It is simple to do if you know how to sew. If not I’m sure you can get your Mom, Wife, girl friend or significant other to make it for you. Yes, I know how to sew thanks to the U.S. Army :-)
Here is what you need:
O.D. (olive drab) green thread.
1.5’ O.D. green webbing.
Sewing machine.
I also added my call-sign name tape. I folded the webbing about ¾ of its length. From the hook end I went about 1.5” down and sewed a straight line to hold the folded strap in place. This made a loop to slide the hook through. Then I sewed a rectangle the full length of the folded webbing. Once that was done I made and “X” inside the rectangle for support. Finally I sewed on my call-sign name tag.

Frogman, I did essentially the same winch mount/bumper cut as you; looks great, works fine, cost diddly! What more could one want?
Here's another wrinkle; after making the cuts I gave the cut surfaces a quick hit with sandpaper then "flame polished" them with a propane torch to smooth them out and make the cut edges black again. Just hit the cut surface lightly with the torch and they'll clean up nicely.
