How has your fuel economy changed with the Hypertech? I've been thinking about this unit, specificially for the fuel economy improvement. Curious as to how improved it actually is.

Fuel Economy:

Running Premium Fuel w/ Hypertech Premium Setting, 92 Octane. MPG was on the lower end of 15.

Running Regular fuel w/ Hypertech Regular Setting, 87 Octane, MPG was on the lower end of 16.

Stock Setting on Regular fuel yeilded about the same as the Hypertech Regular setting.

My driving is mostly city with a little highway mixed in. I am seeing 15.5 mpg with Hypertech on the Regular setting. I dont think you should see an improvement with Hypertech. It does however feel much peppier on the low end of the RPM range with the Regular fuel setting. Yo ucan see more power in the higher bands with the Premium. Since I dont rev my engine to redline when I drive the Premium setting wasnt helping me. In my opinion run the Regular setting and drive normal, shifting at 3-4k rpm for best results. It feels much stronger that way.

Highway of course would be much better mpg but I have 4.10 gears and 32's so my rpms are at 2500 when doing 75mph. This in some ways kills mpg on the highway.

When I run larger 33 or 35's in the future I am leaving the 4.10's alone to try and recoup some mpg.

Hmm. Interesting... Hypertech claims big fuel economy improvements. I know the GIAC chip for Porsches worked wonders in my 964, and my brother in law's Duramax sees a huge increase in economy with his set up.

I use my JK for work, and put on around 5000km a month, so any increase in economy will be appreciated. I may try the Hypertech still.

If you do alot of highway driving I think the Hypertech will help. Check out the power/torque graph that they provided. Personally, I don't care what the MAX HP will be, it's not a drag racer, but when you look at 1800 -1900 rpm, there is a significant increase of like 14 lb ft for reg, and 24 lb ft for premium. If that's the case then, at highway speeds you should see huge improvements as this is the overdrive cruising rpm (around 100 kph). Remember, it's torque that moves you and horspower that accelerates you. With those numbers, the Jeep should stay in overdrive longer.

I'm really liking this product and adjustability, but the price is a little steep.

I dont really care what the numbers are but to be honest with you most are going to like the regular fuel setting. I have run both several times and regular is by far the best feeling in everyday driving.

I can see though that if you frequent the highway (70-80 mph speeds) the premium feels real nice; your wallet on the other hand does not!

Can't really compair these cars with a jeep. Turbo cars see VAST improvments. I had a vw that doubled it's horsepower almost with a exhaust chip and a simple turbo swap. Honestly I used to sell and work for a chip tuner. I never saw why a NA car would get chiptuning. The amount of gain and power for the $$$ negligable. Something like the VAG-Com for the jeeps would be a great tool. It's basically a diagnostic scan tool which allows you to turn on all kinds of things and do things like throttle body alignment and stuff. It also reads some data blocks provided by the ECM which can be converted into a rolling road dyno. This was all possible with the Bosche Motronic system. I haven't done enough research to find out what kind of engine managment software Jeeps have.

Just measured the height of my BFG KM2's and they are 34" tall on a 17x8.5 inch rim. I marked the tire then moved the jeep so it made one rotation. This yeilded me a 106.25. Divide that by PIE or 3.14 and you get 33.837 or round up to 34.00 inches.

106.25
______ = 33.837
3.14

OR

Measure tire using a level and from the ground it was approx. 34"

NOTE: I programmed the Jeep for 33.75" tires drove around and at 30 mph I was actually doing 30.1 - 30.3 almost spot on!!!

Thanks for the write up, I'm def gonna get one as soon as I can afford it. Could I expect some

extra gain since I already have a catback and intake?

You may get a little bit better performance, but I think you also run a slight risk of running a bit lean.
