I ran this carrier for about 3 months and took it off due to the damage it was going to cause my tailgate. Every bump would cause the tailgate to flex and make a horrible popping sound. In short, there is no true bolt on mod that will make the tailgate properly support the weight of a heavier tire/wheel combo.

Since day one I still have 0 noises coming from my tailgate. I am amazed, but this carrier has done the job perfectly for me. It holds my 37's like a champ!

One day you'll take the spare off and see warped sheet metal and a large upward diagonal crease in the sheet metal between the hinges... don't say I never warned you.

I appreciate the warning. I did position the tire low enough so it is just touching the top of the bumper, thinking that would take some of the weight off the tailgate. I will continue to check for signs of fatigue though.

Hopefully that will help... I wish Jeep would've designed these tailgates stronger in the first place... I'm going to be removing my back seat soon so I can lay the spare back there. My tailgate has a brand new Vector Element Plate with a 3-gallon Rotopax now instead of the tire carrier.

I've been considering this.... I have 35" Mickey Thompson ATZ's... at the moment, I can't spring for a new bumper/carrier combo. Just not in the cards for me at this time, but I need to carry my spare. It's either this, or try to have someone fab something up for me similar to the AEV carrier that you can use with the stock bumper. Would just buy that if it wasnt so damn expensive.

man, I'm just really worried about ruining that tailgate... it's so much weight.

I have one for sale, like new only missing the break light bracket.
worked well for me used about 6 months, i did buy a bumper carrier combo so i do not need it anymore.

I have E rated 35" tires on very heavy rims heavy most 37" tires are lighter,I would here a small noise once in a while from the tailgate.

If you have a lghter set of 35" tire and wheel combo I would not be too conserned.

I will take $50 shipped for it in usa

Was debating this for some time, and I decided to go ahead and order one... figured this is the best thing I can do until I can get a bumper/carrier combo. Got one on Amazon for under $100.
