Just to let you guys know....

I am rolling with the Smittybilt Oversized tire carrier + 35x12.5x17 MT MTZ for around 2 months, and already my tailgate is rattling.

Whenever I hit a bump, I can hear my tailgate moving... :s

Anyone running a 35x12.5x15 on a 3.75" backspaced rim and using this bracket? I'm wondering if it will still snug up against the rails and how far out the tire will stick. My wheel/tire combo only weighs about 80lbs so I think this should work alright.

Default Smitybilt Tire Carrier 2743 with ProComp Wheel

I recently purchased the 2743 Smitybilt tire carrier after I put on 35 inch ProComp tires and 17 inch Wheels from ProComp. I noticed that the Smitybilt tire carrier rod that holds the wheel onto the tailgate is much smaller diameter than my wheel opening. So when I put my wheel on it, there is a lot of room for the wheel to move around (versus the 3 lug bolts that hold the spare onto the factory tire carier). I stopped my installation as I thought I needed to get some form of spacer that would slide into the inside wheel to provide true snug fit around the smitybilt rod. Is there such a thing or is this aftermarket tire carrier only designed for smaller diameter wheels? Let me know. Thanks

I think I might try my luck with this. I am believing the key might be getting part of the spare to rest on my stock rear bumper

ive only had mine on about a month with a 35 mud grappler. The tire and wheels come in at 111 pounds. The gate definitely closes slightly harder due to the weight but its still holding solid so far.

Default This carrier w/ Teraflex HD Hinge minus the adjustable mount

I currently have the smittybilt oversized carrier (It came with the Jeep from the dealer along with 35" Nitto TG's and a 2.5" RC BB lift) Brand new. I recently purchased the Teraflex HD Hinged Carrier but WITHOUT the adjustable mount in hopes that these two will work together.

Does anyone know if this will fit with the Teraflex HD Hinged Carrier? I'm in Afghanistan and will be home in a couple months to find out on my own BUT I was seeing if I could find out from someone on here before hand that way I can get the TF adjustable mount ordered if I need to. Thanks!

NOT stealing thread...just adding to the ongoing discussion

Oh and btw....My Smittybilt rattles when i hit any decent size bumps....and I only had my jeep on the road for 2 weeks when i was home.

Gonna order this right now and give it a go...can't see spending $1,600 on the bumper I want and since my shop burned down and ruined all my tools it will take me a while to get all the fab tools I need to build my own stuff that is stronger than anything out there and my 09 Sahara was inside when it burned so I bought a 13 Rubi and I want to fab my own stuff,

I just installed mine last week. No complaints. It does what it's supposed to do and I like it

I had my spare sitting on the bumper about a 1/2 inch or so and hopefully that takes most the pressure off the gate
