Keeping fenders black?
I have been a way from this site for a while, but just noticed this write-up. I used an automotive plastics paint called Trim Black. I have put the paint to the test. Running through shrubbery, sand, mud, rain, windy dusty days, the blazing sun in AZ. They still look great. Like it was already said, your time in your preparation will determine your results. I used a surface prep cleaner and a red Scotch-Brite pad and scrubbed the fenders and bumpers down really good. Then I went around with CLEAN non-fuzzy rags and my cleaner ,wiping everything down really good. (I used this same method to do my stock JK wheels. Dry Scotch-Brite pad though) I deleted my pics of the proccess from my phone, but when I get home I will post up some pics of my results. All of those other options are great and all, but why not just do it right the first time. Watching people use Peanut Butter is pretty damn funny, but thats a desperation move... I didnt use bedliner out of personal choice. The paint I used is specifically designed for automotive plastics. (Dads an ASE Certified Master Collision Repair Specialist. He is who told me about Trim Black) You can get it at Napa. Its a bit more costly, but its better than using edible ineffective products on your Jeep! Lol.. I used a regular semi-gloss paint for the wheels. I think I used Krylon semi-gloss.

Well, here are a couple I have on my phone. I will post up before and after pics. Its a massive difference, made the Jeep look new again! The first two pics are the best before and after I have until I get home.
I use 303 aerospace protectant on running boards, soft top, rubber seals and any plastic trim. Looks great and really protects!
I can buy it at my local ACE Hardware.

So after 8 days, the peanut butter looks really bad, the olive oil does not look that bad. It is similar to the Maguire's Ultimate black. The Armor All is gone and is equal to the untreated parts of the fenders. The turtle wax Plastic trim restorer really does look the best.
I'll let it go another week and take some more photos.

That's pretty impressive, both in the results and that you would do a test like this.
Thanks for posting what you found.

Seriously, though, great way to get to the bottom of things. Looking forward to next week's pics.
Trim Black is the way to go. Its a bit more expensive, but once you do it you will be happy with the results. Its well worth the extra coin. Ask your favorite parts store if they recommend another paint product, Im sure Dupli-Color or Krylon have a similar product at a lower cost. Trim Black is about $15-20 a can. I was able to do all my fenders, both bumpers, and my wheels with 5 cans. Each can still has some extra left in them. I did about 4 coats per bumper/fenders. Took 3 cans, the other 2 did all 5 wheels with enough in each can left over for touch up areas that could have been missed. Think I will probably use what I have left and do my grill. Im not saying my way is the Almighty, its simply the choice I made, and I could not be happier! Good luck with this. Be sure to show us your results!
