why ru calling this a marlin spike grab handle? A marlin spike is something a Boatswain's Mate uses in the navy to loosen up lines or splices in lines. For your reference a Line is a navy term for rope.

Hey Sarbatche, this really was a great idea. I just made a first grab handle similar to yours but with a 4 stranded square sinnet instead. I used black rope nylon rope from lowes (.39 a foot x 20ft-5ft cut off). One end was a prusik knot loop and the open end were paired off and tied using double fishing knots. I had no experience at all with any of this before seeing this post and after a little googling, youtubing, and ropework, i have a custom grabhandle that my passenger side sorely needed. Many thanks.

Very cool. It's great how the ideas grow and develop on this forum. How are you attaching this to the roll bar? Any pics installed?

Here you are. I had to take off the hard top to get the rope on (I used heavy rope) but now the hard top kinda cinches it down. Anyway, to get it on the front passenger roll bar, i used a prusik knot for the beginning loop then once that was on and secured, i paired up the four loose lines at the end of the sinnet with double fisherman's knots. They had to be tied once the prusik was already on. Then once i had the fisherman's knots the length i wanted (they make two sets of loops) I just twisted the loops around each other and cut the remaining line off and melted the ends with a lighter. Not too tough an install once i figured out a good way of securing it. Someone more knowledgeable can suggest a better knot to make the end loops but my way works (especially since someone posted the rock climbing page with animated directions)

Default Good Job!

That's awesome that you followed up on the idea and figured a braid out for yourself. Not to mention how cheap it is too, eh?

That is awesome, and you don't have to worry about them coming apart like the velcro type. Great job.
