Default No Drill CB Mount

I hope this doesn't go over like that guy's wooden doors.

I have a Uniden Pro 510xl from my TJ I wanted to put in my JK, but I didn't want to go hacking up my interior. I really liked over the rear view mirror like WOL mounted his, but I was afraid that the plastic molding may not be secure enough to hold my old uniden. I have no idea if it weighs more than his midland but with my luck I would hit a bump on a mountain trail and the CB would fall on my head.

Anyhow this is what I came up with:

I know it is hard to see very well

Here it is after spraying with Duplicolor spray bed liner:

Here is where I tested it for fit. The clamp goes in front of the alignment hole. It is covered up by the roll bar padding:

If you are curious what it is made of... I used 1"ish aluminum tube, 2 L-Brackets with an extra bend I put in them to make them more Z- shaped, 2 Hose Clamps, 2 small L-brackets, half a can of spray bed liner, rivets, and screws.

I used the small L-Brackets to attach the CB to the mount because the bracket that came with it didn't hold it up tight against the mount like I wanted. Using the small brackets has made the CB and Mount like one solid piece. I ran the wires in the opening in the plastic on the windshield where the tie-down is.

It is very solid and has no movement. It is easy to remove and leaves no damage to the Jeep. It may be a good solution for someone wanting to put a CB in a leased vehicle, or someone like me not wanting to make holes.

Looks good, I had mine mounted this way. the mic kept falling off and bonking the wife in the head, so I switched to a cobra 75.

LMAO! I hope that doesn't happen. I tightened up the prongs on the mic holder so it is really snug. I guess if it starts falling off I could just take the mic off and put it in the glove box.

haha, thanks. Antenna... ya. The cable is sitting in my little trunk in the back. I can't decide what to do about the antenna.

Any ideas?

I mounted my CB on to the plastic trim just like the write up in Project JK. I did put some rectangular flat nuts, which I picked up from a big-box hardware store, behind the plastic trim.

I was weary of just leaving the screws as a stand alone fastener for my CB mounting bracket. We all know how plastics can get brittle over time.

That was smart. Have you had any trouble with the factory clips holding the molding up? If I decide I don't like this anymore I may put it up there. I had planned that location but was afraid the clips couldn't hold it or like you the plastic would become brittle and break.

Thanks for all the kind words everyone.

Thanks for all the kind words everyone.

The Plastic trim is held with clips and the bolts that attaches the sun visor to the windshield frame. So, the attachment is solid. I'd take a pic if it weren't a pain to take everything apart. Sorry. You'd see what i mean once you start working on it.
