Power for portable air compressor
Like many jeepers, I have a portable air compressor that I hook up after the ride to refill the tires back up to road pressure. And, like many, I have been opening the hood and connecting the alligator clips for the compressor to the battery to finish the job.
I purchased the Air Armor M240 portable air compressor because I liked the idea of the compressor and the accessories in a single, durable container. I just hated the idea of how it needed to connect directly to the battery every time I used it.
My solution was to create a method to power the compressor without the alligator-clip-to-the-battery approach. To solve this I purchased a couple Anderson SB50 connectors. I cut off the alligator clips on the compressor and attached one Anderson connector to the compressor.
I then manufactured a wiring loom with the other Anderson Connector. I ran the wiring loom to my SPOD so that it could be controlled by the toggle switch in cab. The other end was zipped tied to another wire loom which ran in the bumper. I have a weather cover coming for the connector that remains on the bumper.
Now, when I need to power the air compressor, I simple connect the Anderson Connectors, flip the toggle, and the air compressor is humming away. The Anderson connectors are designed to maintain polarity and cannot be connected improperly. It's not on-board air, but it is a breeze to use.
