Default Rear headrest removal

After putting in a new garbage disposal for a friend, today, I was feeling a bit destructive and adventurous so I decided to tackle the problem of my annoying rear seat headrests. I was hoping to find a way to take them off completely and have an unobstructed view out the back window.

As you will see in the photos, I got most of the way there:

use a flathead screwdriver to push spring clip off the base of headrest post

Now, once you shift the seat forward the headrest will move back but will NOT come back up when you shift the seat back. It should stay in place.

With the headrest down it is easy to see the small cutouts for the headrest release.

I still had a difficult time pushing the release so I popped off the center plastic piece to access the spring button.

Finished!!! Well, sort of.....

From this point I'm still trying to find a non-permanent way to remove the posts...

I have a 2 door, and there are two buttons on the headrest, and they just come right out. That kinda silly that they make it different for the 4 door

I guess DCX thought that they were being helpful by making it possible to fold down the seats in the 4-dr without removing the headrests. Nice thought, but it would have been better to make an easy option to remove them, too.

i agree, it looks sweet when they fold down perfect, but man i hate headrests that poke forward like they do.

not as bad as in the Vibe or Equinox, but annoying enough. PLUS the obstructed view.

tell us if you have any more success. if it looks good and is non-permanent, i'd join you in ripping those things out

You could throw the headrests at him.

The headrests just slip right back on. Slip them on, push the whole shebang back up and it works like normal. (Well, normal if you are a hunched over old man anyway.)
