Good write up and seems like it is going to work for a long time.

how has everyone been going with this sort of roof rack system? has anyone had any problems with heavy loads cracking the roof or anything like that? has anyone actually been offroad and tested out the strength of the rack with some weight up there in it?

Im just very curious as this is definately a cheaper option that getting a full rack system but im just skeptical on how much punishment it will be able to withstand?

I just ordered the Garvin Track Rack because that was all I needed. Holds 200LBS and is attached in a similar fashion as the OP's. I guess at the end of the day you need to know what you are going to use it for. There are racks out there that mount to the body and not the top, and those can hold a whole bunch of weight. Downside is you are drilling into your Jeep.... There is a website that shows like 8 grown men standing on a rack, just can't remember who it is at the moment.

With snowboarding season coming up I've been thinking about how I want to do my rack this year. I am tossing around the idea of this same concept but using a rack from another SUV. I found a rack from a cherokee on craigslist for $40 and I am going in the next few days to check it out. If it fits the bill I will tackle this project soon also. I know that I will be stuck with only the width that the bars are but I am ok with that.

Where is the best location to mount the rails? Should they be on top of the ribs, between the ribs, or does it not matter?

Q1: Does anyone have a picture of the Thule rail system on a 2 door?

Q2: Has anyone had any issues with drilling through the fiberglass top to mount objects like the rail systems?

Thanks in advance,

Jaden

There's a guy/vendor on another site that mounted a roof top tent on his and has put lots of off-road miles on it with no issues.

YMMV

somewhere on here I have the Tracks attached to mine. Had a Garvin 48x60 on it. I've had it loaded down with all kinds of stuff.. .no problems.
