Question Plausible 2-Door JK Solution...But Need Help!!

Does anyone have a picture and/or a clearance measurement of the 2-door soft top? I was looking at some offline pictures and came up with a plausible solution:
  1. Use 1/2" plywood and not the 3/4" mentioned in the original post
  2. Found these rack mounts that are 2.5" high...net 3.0" clearnance needed
  3. Since the mounts are velcro, need to find some way to secure the weapon to the rack
  4. Was thinking about a lock through the trigger guard - see other discussions in thread regarding CWP and open carry laws
  5. Turn the weapon so that the trigger guard is facing the rear of the Jeep

Since I am away from the house on a business trip I will not be able to verify this solution until the weekend. That is unless someone out there is willing to do some of the leg work and post the measurements/picture to the forum.

Thanks in advance for anyone willing to help out on trying to solve this problem. I hope we do solve this because this is a GREAT mod.

A couple of months ago I was at the Oakland California 4WheelParts store when one of the mechanics said someone was backing into my Jeep. When I went out there I found an asian getting out of his van. I approached him and remarked on his lack of driving skills. He mumbled something in Chinese and walked toward a larger group of Asians that were now approaching me, one of them with a pipe in his hand. Unfortunately for them, I had my Beretta 92FS in the car as I was on my way to the range (or at least that is the story I'm sticking to). It was amazing how they all stopped as I leveled it at the lead guys head and politely suggested they go back to wherever they came from. They immediate agreed. I'm sure some socialist liberal in this state would accuse me of violating their civil rights to kill me, but I'm sure I saved my life that day by having my firearm in my vehicle.

I am an officer and have been for 20+ yrs. In my opinion this is in the grey area, I have never heard of anyone being charged with ccw of a shotgun or rifle, unless it was illegally modified. The ccw law is basically for handguns, knives and other hand weapons. The "modification" of space is refering to cutting of or altering the a space in the dash, under a seat or other locations to conceal drugs or contraband. By adding more material it should not be a problem ie: mounting a flashlight would be considered illegal.

It basically gets down to if you are doing something you shouldn't or being an A$@, anyone could should expect to have problems.

I don't even own a gun let alone many guns that would necessitate an entire rack.
