Did you prime first or just paint the bare metal?

Does this have some type of gate stop integrated so the gate doesn't swing freely? That would be a really nice added feature vs installing a gas rod on the inside.

Just installed mine. It does prevent the gate from opening too far. Added bonus for sure.
Install was pretty easy. It is a definite improvement over the stock hinges.

Mine's a 2012 so it was already primed underneath; a greenish primer color....

Didn't know they ever changed their painting procedure

I should have taken a pic. A friend is doing his '12 this weekend and I'll see if he has the same primer undercoat; take some pics.

I will as well. My carrier arrives tomorrow and I'm going to install either Friday or Saturday. If there's no primer I'll probably put a coat down before I paint. I have an '08.

I just got mime the other day, and am getting ready to install it within the coming week. I have a question for the OP or anyone who has installed one:

How the hell do you rotate the new hinge 15 degrees prior to bolting it on?????

The hinge on the Teraflex carrier is so tight, I can't move it with my bare hands. I'm no 98 lb weakling, but I can't get it to budge.

I really don't want to stick any metal prying tool in it for fear of scratching the finish. I'm thinking I could use lag bolts and bolt it down to an 8" by 8" timber temporarily, then lift up on the other end to rotate it to the recommended 15 degrees.

Any thoughts?

I know, it's pretty tough to move the hinges, so I stood it on end with its own weight resting on the feet, and pushed downwards. This moved the feet/hinges, and helped to loosen them a bit. Below are pics of the partially primed bare spots.

So are you going to prime then paint or just paint?
