Transmission Problems.
Let me start off by letting know what I own. I have a 2008 JKU automatic. I have 315/70/75 with a three in suspension lift. I recently started having a random shudder. So I thought it might be the gears. But in all the research and taking to a buddy of mine who owns a shop. And after researching on here seems like a lot of people have problems with the 42RLE transmission. It seems the problem is a torque converter shudder. I would like to know if any body on here has had or currently has this problem. If so can any body point me the right direction to were to to buy an after market Torque Converter. I really don't want to buy a factory one. Any an all advice will be thankful. Thanks in advance.
It's possible you have a torque converter problem.
But before considering that, let's have some more information.
Have you reprogrammed the computer for the the bigger tires?
Do you still have the 3.73 gears in the axles?

This is indeed a torque converter problem i had the same thing. The fix from the dealer was $1800, though i filed a claim with chrysler and only had to pay $300. There is a TSB for the issue as well;
Project-JK.com - Jeep JK Wrangler Resource » TSB - Flash: Torque Converter Shudder Or 1-2, 2-3 or 3-4 Upshift Bumps
This however, was not the issue and they ended up replacing the torque converter with a more heavy duty one? Regardless, My issues were when i was cruising around 50mph and the transmission would shift into OD and RPMs would be at 1000-1500. If i hit the gas the shudder would go away. Feels like you're driving over rumble strips.

No program yet and still factory gears. And it does feel like riding on a rumble strip. I'm trying to stay away from dealership they are a bunch of...... Let leave it PG lol
Do you know if your JK has ever been reprogrammed for the torque converter issue?
Some JKs actually did need a new torque converter, though.
Since you don't want to go to the dealer yet, take care of the things you can do.
With the wrong tire size in the the computer, the transmission is running a little confused. You can fix that with an AEV ProCal.
With the stock 3.73 gears, your already struggling engine and transmission are having an even harder time moving your JK on the taller tires. Re-gearing will put the engine back in a better power band, and the load on the transmission will be less.
So, you can do those things first and see if the shuddering goes away, or you can go to the dealer and see what they have to say about the reflashing of the PCM for shudder, or replacing the torque converter.
No matter what you do first, correct tire size in the computer, and correct gears for the tires are things that should be addressed.
I plan I reprogramming no matter what. But once that is paid for my budget allows for either gears or the new converter. That's why I turned here to the forum. Im honestly leading to the new torque converter but I just don't know were to buy a heavy duty one at. I under stand the gear issue tho, as I have read tons on this forum of different post.

Well I want to thank everyone for their input on my transmission issues. I went to the dealership and asked about the flash Cal but they absolutely refused to help me. I found a company that has the TC that I need. Once the part is installed I will be back to give a review.

Both they told me that they don't do that for customers. I showed them the write up and paper I printed out. They said that that was an old issue and I missed the window of opportunity to get it fixed And they said u would be better off with an after market tuner any way not the. So I asked to speak with the manager. He told me the same thing.
