Looks like she popped off again for the 6th time last night and isn't settling down. Anchorage is fairing well right now with no ash fall but heard Fairbanks is getting some of it.

Hey AKDave, I know you're pretty close to it, can you see it acting up?

This morning's news said you guys had a trace of ash up there. Nope haven't been able to see across the inlet as it's been overcast since it blew. Monday morning tho, at work in Kenai, we could smell heavy sulfer in the air. So far we've been lucky for sure. But I still left the JK at home for the last 3 days and am driving the old Taurus.... I think this is the forth volcano eruption I've been through now since I've been here.

Damn, another one just went off Yeah, the news said we had a little fallout the other day but I didnt see anything significant.

You were here when it made a mess back in "89? What kind of advice do you have for vehicles (if the ashfall decides to shift our way)? Couple of extra air filters and limit travel?

I left early from work today because the wife called and said there was ash coming down at the house. We got enough just to barely cover things. I just came in from using the air compressor to blow it all off the vehicles.

Of course, to not drive at all is best, (my JK has been parked since Monday) but if you have to, what we've done is douse a chunk of foam rubber in oil, (or spray with WD40) then wring as much of the oil out as you can. Wrap that around or next to your main air filter. Then use pantyhose to cover the whole thing. This is what the deisel mecanic shop I used to work at did when we got hammerd years ago.

I also just did the foam rubber thing to the wife's toyota, as well as the Taurus I've been driving to work this week.

If it blows again tonight it looks like it will be heading your way....
Good Luck....!!!

where do you get the foam rubber from?
This is the first I have ever been around an active valcano and not sure how worried I should be. I live up by Healy and if the wind blows this way we will get a thin dusting. I also notice on those days my eyes are a bit uncomfortable.
Maybe I should just us this as an excuse to buy a nice intake system.

I'm doing the panyhose thing now over the intake. Looked out the other day and the ash was all over everything. Man, hopefully it just blows already or just goes dormant

I saw a satellite photo the other day and saw that the ash has hit almost even with Denali.
The foam rubber I am referring to, is the the tan stuff that is used a lot in packaging. It's about 1/4-1/2" thick. I found some in some boxes at work recently. A packaging store should have it, but I doubt they have one in Healy....do they? The panythose thing by itself really isn't quite enough....the oil or WD40 in the foam is what really grabs the ash.

How are things way up north in Healy anyway.....still as slow as I remember???...lol. No, I shouldn't say that as the only time I was there was driving through in the middle of winter on my way up to Prudoe in 1985. It was night time too so really didn't see much of anything. If I remember all we did was catch a few winks in the truck at a gas station before heading on.
Hope all is well up there and the ash never reaches that far. We got just a trace again yesterday. But it's been steaming and ashing so continually now, it's gonna be hard NOT to get some here and there I'm sure. A little isn't that bad, but when it lays on heavy....boy does that get to be a mess.

I just moved here from WY a few weeks back. I work at the coal mine. So far I love it. It is beautiful here and the people are real nice! My family (wife, 2 girls 7 & 1.5, boy 5, dog ?, cj8 scram '83) will be coming up in June and things should just get better. Looking forward to fishing, sight seeing, driving around and stuff.
I am gunna have to head to fairbainks this weekend. I grew up in a town of 300 in Neb. and it had more to offer than this town of 1000 does. oh-well! still like it here.
Another thing I did not think about up here is shipping. I am used to buying stuff on the internet but last week I ordered a rear bumper hinge kit from AtoZ and they wanted $50 shipping for a $42 part and said no-way! Later I called AtoZ and he said they happily would throw it in a flat rate box and we were both happy!!
It should be fun up here.
Hope Redoubt doesn't give you guys too much trouble.
