Hey all, Looking for the offroad and jeep clubs in Abilene or surrounding area. Where is everybody going 4x4n around here that is worth the 20-30 min drive?
Any other info or pics, please post!

I only know of Fort Phantom lake area, but i heard your not really supposed to be krawling around out there?

Whoa! My old stomping grounds! Wish I could help you with that. As far as I know, there really aren't any places to go. I think there was some cool stuff out at Lake Abilene, but very minimal. You might consider taking a trip up to Amarillo to the river. Lots of water crossings, climbs and whatnot.

Whatever you do....Don't go in the mud. I was there Last July and well if you look at the pictures of my jeep on my page you will see how much of the lake I had covering my jeep. There was a guy out there threatning me with a $180 ticket. I actually went out there to pull someone else out of the mud.

Best place is Kirby Lake. It's kinda like a bowl, and out of sight. I am in Abilene too. Hit me up if you go out!

Kirby is safe to play at as long as you stay out of the actual lake. The trails out there are considered service roads so as long as you are registered and inspected you are good to go. There are a lot more trails out there then you might think, just have to explore, and after a good rain there is always a lot of mud.

I personally don't know of any Jeep specific clubs around here, maybe we should start one up?

I'd definitely be in also, I know there are quite a few Jeeps here in town it would just be a matter of getting out to everyone. Ive never personally started a club before but i have no problem with helping out as much as I can. I can get facebook page started up, that way we have a good spot for posting get togethers and what not.
