After you decide on the bulk of the package, would you mind posting a little summary here? Would be great to follow as I'm thinking about this in the next year or so...

Will post the package discussed and all the questions raised in the conversion. I had already made quite a few mods on the jeep and some will have to go or be relocated with the Hemi install. Already pulled out the dual battery setup in anticipation of the conversion.

Pulled the trigger with Screamin Lizards to install a 5.7 VVT with a 545RFE 5 speed transmission. May be awhile though maybe a month since some of the hemi's are on back order. Talked through the entire install with Sean and was impressed with the knowledge and response. Can not wait to get rid of the 3.8 anchor.

Congrats! Looking forward to hearing about the swap! What will you get out of the stock motor & tranny?

The transmission has to be sent in as a core charge. Not much call for the motor, you can not hardly give them away.

Can't wait to hear how this turns out for you! Good Luck

I want to do a Hemi conversion. My JKU has over 80k miles and I just don't have a lot of confidence in the 3.8.
I was hoping the S.L. guys would be at the Truck and Jeep Fest in Dallas a couple of weeks ago. I wanted to discuss the conversion with them.

I think I'll make a trip over there and visit them.

I actually talked with Sean probable five different times. Kept coming up with new questions and he answered them all straight away. I feel confident that they will do a good thorough job. They were doing a hemi conversion the last time I was in there.

I am making the change to the motor and transmission combination below from the stock 3.8. I am currently running 35's with 5:13 gears. I believe the 5:13 gears will be too much for the Hemi. If the torque curve supplied by Dodge is correct the 5.7 should have enough torque and horsepower at seventy mph to run 35's with 4:10 gears. The 5.7 motor at 1850 rpm produces approximately 335 ft lbs torque @ 280 HP. Does this sound about right? I want to have the gears changed the same time the Hemi is installed but I want enough gear that the motor will not down shift all the time like it was with the 3.8 when going up hills but still have some gas mileage. The stock Ram trucks with the 5.7 come with a 3:55.
Stock Specifications Hemi Specifications Stock Ram
Motor 3.8 - 196 HP - 232 Torque 5.7VVT - 390 HP @ 5600 rpm
407 Torque @ 4000 rpm
Transmission 42RLE 545RFE / 65RFE
1st Gear 2.84 3.0
2nd Gear 1.57 1.67 / Kick down 1.50
3rd Gear 1.0 1.0
4th Gear 0.69 0.75
5th Gear 0.69
Differential Gear 4:10 / Presently 5:13 3:55 on Dodge Rams
Vehicle Weight 3935 4629
Tire size 255/75R17 = 32.3" 265/70R17 = 31.6"
Presently running 35's

Not to rain on your parade or anything and I hope I dont get beaten to a pulp for saying this in here, but whats all the hype of "having" to have a hemi conversion? I mean 20k is just outrageous when you consider, and this could be my lifetime of owning bowties, an ls swap with a motech conversion kit can run you half that with all the bells and whistles, or even less if you do the work yourself and hand pic your engine and transmission. If you got the money to do all power to you and congrats on success but when you compare the price of the hemi to a 5.3l, 6.0l, 6.2l LS its insane to me but then again I might just be a fan boy and I'm missing something.
